Lecture by Kay Redfield Jamison

image8.jpgThe World of Psychology blog has recently posted a link to a 30-minute lecture by Kay Redfield Jamison, professor of Psychology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Jamison opens with an excerpt from her well-known book An Unquiet Mind: Personal Reflections on Manic-Depressive Illness and proceeds to describe her personal experiences with manic-depressive illness (bipolar disorder). The lecture originally took place at the University of Virginia on April 3, 2002.

Created by the University of Virginia NewsMakers, the transcript to the lecture can also be found in their online archives here.

Dr. Jamison is also the author of Touched with Fire: Manic Depressive Illness and the Artistic Temperament, an interesting and well-written history of manic-depression and the artistic temperament (see the comments to a recent post here at AHP for a discussion of the dangers of retrospective diagnosis) and Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide among other titles.
